Dual M.A. and M.S.L.I.S. Degrees Credit Distribution



The following are the number of credits required for each degree in the dual NYU M.A. in Irish and Irish-American Studies/ LIU M.S. in Library and Information Science program:


NYU’s GSAS Irish and Irish-American Studies:
    24 credits (6 courses)
  • Core: 8 credits (2 courses)
  • Field Specialization: 8 credits (2 courses)
  • Electives: 8 credits (2 courses), versus 16 credits in the single-degree program

LIU’s Palmer School of Library and Information Science:
    28 credits
  • Core: 12 credits (4 courses), versus 15 credits in a the single-degree program
  • Electives: 12 credits (4 courses), versus 18 credits in the single-degree program
  • Mentoring: 3 credits (160 hours)

Transfer of Credits (included in the above requirements):
    NYU GSAS accepts 9 Palmer credits (3 courses) to make a 32-credit degree.
    LIU Palmer accepts 8 GSAS credits (2 courses) to make a 36-credit degree.

Two Masters degrees combined require 52 credits, granting an M.A. and an M.S.L.I.S.
Full-time students may complete both degrees in 2-2½ years.
