Ireland House receives award at City Hall

April 1, 2005

Glucksman Ireland House has been awarded an “Organization of the Year” award by the Irish American Heritage and Culture Committee of the New York City Department of Education.

Wholegroup.jpgThe committee, as stated in a letter notifying us of the award, is promoting a theme of “Champions of Education” for the 2004-2005 academic year, and has selected Glucksman Ireland House as their Organization of the Year, as it is their belief that “there is no organization which better defines this theme in New York City than Ireland House, a truly outstanding center for the presentation of Irish and Irish American culture and scholarship.”

We at Glucksman Ireland House are proud to be a part of New York University, and have greatly appreciated our ten years of collaboration in higher education and cultural scholarship.  We are particularly gratified at this distinction, given that we are the youngest Center for Irish Studies in New York City, and that NYU has not previously been so intimately associated with the Irish dimension of the American experience.  We hope that news of this award may help to spread the university’s message throughout the academic, Irish and Irish-American communities.
