Lewis L. Glucksman : In Memoriam

Glucksman Ireland House is deeply saddened to note the passing of Lewis L. Glucksman on July 5, 2006.

Lewis L Glucksman

The faculty, staff, and members of the Advisory Board of Glucksman Ireland House NYU are deeply saddened by the death of Lewis L. Glucksman, entrepreneur and benefactor. An alumnus and trustee of New York University, he exemplified the spirit of philanthropy and leadership, and a steadfast commitment to the pursuit of knowledge.

His love of Ireland inspired the creation, with his wife, Loretta Brennan Glucksman, of a Center for Irish Studies at NYU, a vision realized with the establishment of Glucksman Ireland House in 1993. Through their continuing commitment to and generous support of its academic and cultural activities, Lewis L. Glucksman and Loretta Brennan Glucksman have fostered the emergence of vibrant programs of study in Irish language, literature, history and music and the development of Glucksman Ireland House as a bridge between Ireland and America

We extend our heart-felt sympathy to Loretta Brennan Glucksman, and to Lew’s daughters, Mary Glucksman and Jane Glucksman, to his step-children, John Cooney, Christopher Cooney and Kate Cooney Picco and his grandchildren, Alexa and Ian Groueff and Liam Oscar Picco.

A private memorial service will be held in Ireland and it is anticipated that a memorial service will be held in New York in September [2006].
