Leopold Bloom, like his creator James Joyce, knew his Dublin well. Still, he is a fallible guide to the city's small Jewish community of a century or so ago. Cormac Ó Gráda's talk, building on his recent Jewish Ireland in the Age of Joyce (Princeton, 2006), pits Joyce's fictional character against a rather different historical reality.
