Acclaimed seannós (“old style”) singer Seosaimhín Ni Bheaglaoich performs a program entitled “Goltraí, Geantraí, Suantraí,” a personal selection of laments, lullabies and light-hearted songs in the Irish language. Seosaimhín will also discuss the rich tradition of Irish language songs and her experience as a musical artist working in the Irish language.

Of the famous and musically accomplished Begley family from the Gaeltacht area of Corca Dhuibhne (Dingle Peninsula) in Kerry and educated at Trinity College Dublin, Seosaimhín was a founding member of the group Macalla, Ireland’s first all-female traditional music group.

Introduction by Pádraig Ó Cearúill, Senior Language Lecturer for Irish Studies at Glucksman Ireland House NYU.

Presented with the support of Ireland’s Department of Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs.
